Roman Sebrle and Tomas Dvorak at the Cricketplatz in Vienna

In the IAAF-Group the two Decathletes from Cuba had the potential to score +8000points. But at the pole Vault they had big troubles, because they didnīt bring their own poles. Raul Duany no heighted and injured also a bit. Eugenio Balanque had more luck, he found at least a pole which he could handel. The whole group had bad luck with the weather this weekend. It was the first Jedermann Decathlon where it was cold and it also rained a little bit. Normaly it is very hot this time of the year, so the satring times were set very late, and the athletes still competed after sunset. At the end Eugenio Balanque missed the 8000 score by just 42 points.

Markus Walser was the best Austrian Decathlete with his second +7000 score. After a good start in the first 3 events, including a good PR in the Long Jump, he lost a bit on dynamic. At the end he missed his PR by just 6 points.

Thomas Lorber did his first multieventer since he injured seriously at the begin of the indoor season. On day two he showed a good hurdles and 1500m race and missed his third +7000 score by just 41 points.

Thomas Walser was dissapointed by the performances of his first day and quit. Perhaps he was still a bit tired from his Decathlon in Götzis.

Thomas Tebbich and Michael Schnallinger tested some events before the European Cup next weekend. Thomas had a long break after a knee surgery in December and an injury before Götzis. The last time he could finish a Decathlon was 1999 in Götzis, where he scored the first time +8000 points.

Gerhard Zillner has big problems with an injured sciatic nerve. Last weekend at open regional championships he was free from pain after a longer time and showed some good results (110mH: 15,14s/+1.6; LJ 6,78m/+2.0; PV 4,30m; SP 14,63m; DT 41,90m; JV 59,23m). But before the Decathlon the pain came again and he had to quit.

Roland Schwarzl tested on Sunday also three events before the European Cup against the two world leading Athletes Tomas Dvorak and Roman Sebrle. He showed good results in the Hurdles and Discus, but in his best event the Pole Vault he looked a bit tired and couldnīt challange the two Czech Athletes.

At the Jedermann Competition two Athletes did two Decathlons each. I think this was never done before. Thomas Tonnhofer scored 5028 and 4909points (only the hurdles are a bit lower than in a normal Decathlon for the Jedermann groups). He started his first day 1 at 1:00 pm on Friday and his second at 11:30 pm on Friday. He competed until 5:30am on Saturday, took a sleep for just two hours and started his first day two at 11:30 am on Saturday, finished it at 18:50 pm and just 50 minutes later he picked up his second day two, finished it at Sunday 1:00 am. So he needed 36 hours for both Decathlons. The other Athlete who did this was Helmut Hoetzl who scored 4018 and 3907 points.
