Schwarzl Roland
Date/Place of birth: 10.12.80 OberdrauburgAs a Junior Athlete he showed a big potential, his best result was the 3rd place at the European Junior Championships in 1999. His best event, the Pole Vault, is also the event that causes him most troubles. At World Juniorchampionships 1998 he injured at the Pole Vault and in Götzis 1999 he was on the pace to a PR, and he no highted in the Pole Vault. Also at the national Junior Championships he was on the pace for a new Austrian record, but couldn´t clear the expected hight. He started very good in the indoorseason 2000, with a Heptathlon PR at the Erki Nool Cup. He also won National Heptathlon Championships a week later. Another week later he suprised with two big PRs in the Pole Vault and the Long Jump, where he became 1st and 2nd at the National Indoor Championships. In the last moment he moved into the starterfield for the European Indoor Championships with his mark from Tallin. This was his first international competition at the Seniors. In the Outdoorseason of 2000 and the following Indoorseason he had many problems with injuries. After a good outdoorpreparation in 2001 he injured just 1 week before Götzis again. An ancle injury handicaped him the hole season in the jumping events. In October he had surgery on his ancle. At least in Götzis 2002 he made good Comeback with a PR +7700p.
The 2003 season started with a serious injury for Roland in Götzis at the hurdles. He missed many training weeks, but he won the national title in Decathlon.
In the Indoorseason 2004 he had two good Heptathlons, but in both he was disqualified for two false starts. At the second in Praha in his opinion he didn´t do a false start but there where some problems with the electronic equipment. In anyway he was only able to finish under protest.
Into the outdoorseason he started with a great PR and his first +8000 score in Götzis. In Hengelo he was able to win the European Cup First League and lead the Austrian Team back in the Super-League for 2005. Finally at the Olympic Games in Athens he was able to improve his PR another time and finished 10th. On the way to his Decathlon PR he set 5 individual PR´s.
In the indoorseason 2005 he surprised with the 3rd place at the European Championships and the first score +6000p on Heptathlon by an Austrian Decathlete.
