Lorber Thomas
Date/Place of birth: 10.3.74 KlagenfurtAs a young Athlete concentrated mostly on the pole vault, but after 1991 he stopped training the Athletics. Tried a Jedermann Decathlon in 1997, and made the best Jedermann score ever for an Austrian with 6260 points. Then picked up Decathlon-training and was the big surprise in 1998 when he challenged Gerhard Röser for the Austrian indoor title. In the spring of 1999 though a sore ankle, which botherd him at the high jump, he scored his first +7000 score. At the Austrian nationals he was fit again and placed 3rd. In the indoor season 2000 he was in good shape, but injured before the national championships again. On his way to the outdoorseason he started late at the end of June with 6959 points at the Jedermann-Decathlon in Vienna. 6 weeks later at the national championships he set a new PR and regional record to win his first national title. At the end of 2000 he graduated at the university, where he studied medicine. Then he came into the Austrian Army-Sports program. But the 2001 season was not like he expected. He had a training accident in the pole vault in the indoor season, and other injuries. He finished only one Decathlon in 2001.
