Alfred Stummer

Date/Place of birth: 23.8.1962 Wien
Height/Weight: 1.85 m/80 kg
Coach: Kurt Arbter
Team: ULC Wildschek

Alfred Stummer started in 1976 with athletics aged 14 years. He trained the long jump and triple jump over many years. But because of his coach Kurt Arbter, a former Decathlete , he always trained the mulitievents and did at least one Decathlon each year. He improved continuously in all events, and in 1984 three weeks after his "end of season" Decathlon he was the first Austrian to jump ofer 16 meters in the triple jump. From 1988 on he started to concentrate more on the Decathlon, and made good improvements , but he also improved in his former event the triple jump, and in 1989 he had his best season. He started at the European and World indoor Championships - where he jumped a National Record to reach the final. At this indoorseason he also won the national indoor Octathlon with a new NR in a close match against Gernot Kellermayr . After he graduated from the University he stayed in the Austrian Army to go on with training, but in 1992 he started to work as a Marketingmanager for a big Austrian insurance-company. So he gave up the Decathlon, but still tried to keep fit, and until 1996 he was able to win national titles in the Triple Jump. Now he still starts sometimes, and this year (2000) he won the Championships of Vienna with 13,88m. In his carreer he collected impressive 31 national senior titles and set 15 national records.
