Kellermayr Gernot

Date/Place of birth: 5.4.1966 Linz
Height/Weight: 1.85 m / 82 kg
Coach: Heimo Tiefenthaler, Siegfried Stark
Team: USV Vöcklabruck

Gernot Kellermayr started Athletics with 17 years with the Decathlon. With his first Decathlon he became 2nd at the national under 18 Chamionships. Two years later he became the national Junior Champion in Decathlon, and qualified for the European Juniorchampionships where he became 13th . When Gerorg Werthner and his brother Roland founded the Zehnkampf-Union in 1984 (an Austrian Decathlon Team) Kellermayr was with them, to train with Roland Werthner.

In 1989 he made a big improvement with 7862 points, to win his first senior national title in Deacthlon. In the next season he started for the team of the best Austrian Sprinters, and trained with their coach Heimo Tiefenthaler. His technique coach became the Austrian national Decathlon coach Siegfried Stark, a former World-Class Decathlete from East-Germany.

Kellermayer made big improvements in the sprint, and qualified for the European Chamionships 1990 in Split, where he became 14th. In the next season scored his first national inddor record in the Heptathlon, but then injured his shoulder, so he focused on the national 4x100 relay team, where he ran two national records, an qualified for the World Championships in Tokyo, where they reached the semi-finals.

In 1992 the now very speedy Kellermayr scored his first +8000 score and became 11th at the Olympic Games in Barcelona.

In 1993 he scored 8320 points in Götzis, which was a national record. But after this record Kellermayr and his teammates where tested positiv for the anabolic Steroid Stenolon on the 6th of July and as a result of this they where banned for four years. Nobody of them tried a comeback after the four years. In an hearing they said, that they just started with doping. So the national Decathlonrecord of Kellermayr became official.
