Regional Decathlonchampionships from Niederösterreich 1999 (Amstetten 2./3. October)

15 Athletes picked up the Decathlon, and 10 finished. There were 5 Athletes with a PR +6000 points in the field, but only one scored over 6000 points. It was Gerhard Zillner who didn´t have to finish the 1500 meters for his victory. After a disappointing decathlon at the nationals he wanted to finish the season with a good score. But from the first event on it didn´t work for him too good. His best events were the 400, the hurdles and the discus - where he threw a championshiprecord !

The other favorite, this years surprising national long jump champion Harald Weiser had bad luck - he ripped off his achilles tendon at the approach for a high jump.

Two other athletes with a PR over 6000 points tried the decathlon without training. Gerwin Cernicek, the third from the national Championships 1997, still throws the Javelin very far, which helped him to overtake Thomas Ganger for the 2nd place. Gottfried Lammerhuber, the second Athlete that already retired placed 4th . He was a good longjumper in the past. Now he is coach and manager of his track club UNION St.Pölten.
