Sebrle confirmed Götzis

Decathlon world record holder Roman Sebrle confirmed today his jubilee 10th appearance in a row at the famous multi-events meeting in Götzis, Austria. So far he won five times in a row (2001-2005), once was second (2000), twice fourth (1999, 1998) and sixth in his debut back in 1997. This clash looks like to be the only one where all the best decathloners will compete in this year without global championships. Both US last world champions Tom Pappas and Bryan Clay are entered, along with bronze medallists from Athens (Dmitriy Karpov) and Helsinki (Attila Zsivotzky). German fresh world indoor champion Andre Niklaus is also in the field. Sebrle is currently in training in Benidorm, Spain. „We had some rain at the begin of our training camp, now  it is better. So far the training is good, but we will see after our return. I like Gotzis very much so I could not be missing my 10th start. On the other side my main goal for the season is to succesfully defend my european title in Goteborg,“ he said from Spain. His first start will be at a special Pole Vault Meeting on the square of Kutna Hora, Czech Republic on May 17.

Dvorak did not said it

Despite reports also in international media the press office of Czech Athletics Federation today said that the former world champion and world record holder Tomas Dvorak never confirmed that 2006 will be his last season. „He did not said that. He will be competing in Gotzis, wants to qualify for Goteborg. It is true, he is considering his options, possibly as a coach. But the decision was not made,“ said Czech Athletics Federation.
