High jump meets are continuing – Tomas Janku wins in Brno

BRNO (CZE, Feb 6): Goteborg silver medallist Tomas Janku won the 12th High jump (male only) in Brno, Czech Republic. He cleared without difficulties 230 at first, then passed 232 and then as already confirmed winner tried new meet record 234. On the third he did it and set his new indoor best (outdoors 234 last year in Goteborg). He gave with this to the organisers alos new meet record. The former one held by Svatoslav Ton 233 in 2005. He tried to save energy do not jumped too much. That was also because he flies in the morning to Germany and will compete in the evening at another HJ meet in Weinheim. He then three times tried to equall the czech indoor record of 237 held by Jaroslav Baba back in 2005.

Polish talent Michal Bieniek equalled his indoor best with third try clearance at 230. Svatoslav Ton after first unsuccesfull at 230 tried twice 232 but that was not his day. World Champion Yuri Krimarenko was 4th he also was no table to went over 230.

„I am surprised, I did not know what to expect. I was calculating little bit with my attempts and it worked. Also my technique was good. I think the jumps at 237 were not bad at all, I have the feeling I can do it in near future,“said Janku.

Four world leaders, Gillick went under 46 seconds

DUSSELDORF (GER, Feb 6): Four world leading marks were registered at the PSD Bank Meeting in Dusseldorf before 1500 spectators. It was only second time this meet was organised and another step forward has been made. Kenyans won the running events, Augustin Choge with world lead 3:36.73 and Isaac Songok the 3000 m, both running first time ever indoors. Also Hellen Clitheroe at 1500 m achieved new world lead. Cuban Yargeris Savigne flied with 14.66 and 14.80 to new world bests. Sensationally David Gillick, the current European Indoor champion achieved new national record and as first this season broke the 46 seconds. Olusoji Fasuba confirmed his top position with 60 m win, the final higlight by Liu Xiang was 7.53 but he slowed down in last steps.
