Sebrle is ok and sends his regards

POTCHEFSTROOM: Decathlon world record holder Roman Sebrle is after his javeling accident back in training. „All is ok by now, I returned to my training before three days. My arm is totally healthy, the only thing I am still feeling are the stitches. I want to thank to all my friends, colleagues and supporters who sent wishes to me. For example I had a nice phone call from the world champion Bryan Clay who is my very good friend. My goal remains to defend the european indoor title from Madrid 2005,“ said the best czech athlete of the past years from his training base in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Sokolovskiy in Wuppertal with new world lead 235 cm

WUPPERTAL: The 20th jubilee indoor jumping in Wuppertal, Germany climaxed on Friday evening into the new world lead set by Andriy Sokolovskiy from Ukraine in men´s high jump. He started at 214, then passed 218, again went on first at 222, again passed 225 and jumped 228 on second. He showed his great shape at the begin of the season in his first competition as he did 230 at first and then had the courage to pass 232 and jump 235 again on first. Twice he tried afterwards his new indoor best of 237 cm. His indoor best from last year in Banska Bystrica is 236, outdoors he did 238 back in 2005. Last summer he was not able to find the right shape because he went out in European Championships qualification and did not mastered the whole outdoor season a single 230 jump. German high jump after some time got a 230 man as Eike Onnen went over this bar first time in his life. He jumped excellently with first at 214 and 222 and then went courageously right to 230 and did at first. African champion Kabelo Kgosiemang from Botswana went over 225 as third and that meant a new national record. Only Nigeria, South Africa and Algeria have better indoor national records from Africa. Sokolovskiy will next jump at the best indoor high jump meet on Feb 3 in Arnstadt, Germany.

In women´s pole vault the 2nd row of polish jumpers dominated. Both Roza Kasprzak and second placed Joanna Piwowarska achieved new indoor bests of 445 cm. Dresden winner Julia Hutter was third this time with 435 cm. Interesting in junior category a new best for 184 and win of Hannelore Desmet from Belgium (will be 18 in February).

Ukhov 230 at Moscow High Jump Cup

MOSCOW: Also in Russia a special High Jump meet on Friday was organised. Twenty years old Ivan Ukhov did in his second meet of the indoor season again a 230 cm as Sergey Tikhonov reports. Former world champion (back in 1999) Vyacheslav Voronin was second with 220 cm. Viktoria Klyugina confirmed her early great shape with another win at 192. She did the day before at Moscow City Championships a new world lead of 197 cm. Her husband and olympic champion 2000 Sergey Klyugin is still jumping and was sixth at Moscow High Jump Cup with 210 cm. All the best russian male high jumpers will compete for the first against each other on Sunday at Russian Winter IAAF Indoor Meet.

Fast UK sprints, Kolarova 2:00.35 at 800 m

BUDAPEST: The first of three central European development indoor meets brought on Friday night some fine performances. In the new Budapest SYMA hall nearly 300 athletes from 14 countries competed, the event went for more than five hours. Fast sprinting from Great Britain (the teams were sent actually by English and Welsh federations) was produced in 60 m races. Simeon Williamson achieved in second round of 60 m his new best of 6.65 and was the fastest of the evening. Mark Findlay was close second in also excellent 6.66. Last years IAAF junior athlete of the year Harry Aikines-Aryeetey was fourth in 6.74. Short sprints are at these meetings organised in two rounds – in the first round the races are composed by personal bests and in second round by the times of first round. Probably the best result of the evening came in women´s 800 m as Bulgarian Teodora Kolarova achieved in a solo race a very fast 2:00.65. It was her new indoor best, she so far is not having a sub 2 minutes time in her records in or outdoors. Local athletics was happy because pole vaulter Krisztina Molnar went over 440 cm and so achieved the standard for European Championships in Birmingham. Slovenian triple jump record holder Marija Sestak won the long jump and achieved new national record of 659 cm. She will do her special event at the third of the events on Tuesday in Vienna, Austria, second meet will be held on Sunday in Bratislava, Slovakia. Another two national records were registered. Cathrine Larsasen achieved 410 in women´s pole vault and that was new record for Norway (she was third). Carlos Jorge from Dominican Republic was contesting his first ever indoor outing and his 733 cm in long jump was a new national indoor record (he was also third). He is also outdoor record holder with 796 cm from last year. Irish sprinter Anna Boyle was also very fast, in second round of women´s 60 m she achieved 7.36, only 0.04 behind her national record from last year. But she was not the winner, Bulgarian Magdalena Khristova a former long jumper was even faster with 7.35 what meant a new best for her. In the first round the order was reverse – Boyle 7.42 and Khristova 7.43.
