Colin Jackson was dancing with Jolanda Ceplak

TRENCIANSKE TEPLICE (SVK): Former Hurdles world record holder Colin Jackson was learning to dance the 800 m world indoor record holder Jolanda Ceplak from Slovenia. Where? At the 3rd Athletics Gala of the slovak club Spartak Dubnica in Spa Trencianske Teplice. They were the star guests of the evening during which the top athletes of the best slovakian club were awarded. Also former czech champions were present – world champion 1997 in triple jump Sarka Kasparkova and silver medallist from 1983 at 400 m Tana Netolickova (formerly Kocembova). All four stars expressed the view that it is good that they can give awards to young athletes and so motivate them. Jackson came from Ruhpolding, Germany where he was helping the british biathletes and Ceplak from Vienna, Austria where she was currently in training for indoor season. „I like such a functions, it is good to give back something to young generations. I am now coaching Tim Benjamin and Rhys Williams. It is something new for me and for them, we all learn. But it is very interesting and I hope that they will be able to show good results later in the year at World Championships in Japan,“ said Jackson. He was also asked whether he still would be able to run the hurdles and with smile he answered: „Maybe at 16 seconds but that would need to be at a good day.“ He was able to show his good fitness while he was dancing, he was also succesfully participating at the contest Star Dance in UK. He showed some good steps and rhytm to Jolanda Ceplak. She said that she wants to be back where she was, concerning athletics. After the surgery she plans a full indoor season with the aim to be succesfull in Birmingham. „I am well back in good training, last session in Vienna hall was excellent. Indoors I will run only 800 m, but in summer I want to try also some 1500 m races,“ she said. Her first meet will be in Vienna on Jan 30 at 800 m. During the evening also former slovak prime minister Mikulas Dzurinda was awarded, a keen marathon runner and supporter of Dubnica Club. The Club was last year 6th at European Clubs Cup and succesfully fighted against relegation into the B-group in competition with far stronger clubs. It is also the organiser of already known Athletics Bridge EAA permit double meeting held in autumn, mainly visible for superb hammer throw competitions.

Peter Horak again better: 228 cm

BRATISLAVA (SVK, Jan 13): Slovak high jumper Peter Horak is getting better and better. After he on Jan 5 in Essing, Germany bettered his indoor best to 226 he was even better on Saturday at a local competition in Bratislava Hall „Elan“. He experimented a little bit, because he started first time in his life at 215, but he was succesfull at first as he was also at next heights 220, 224 and even 228. That was his new overall best, last year outdoors he jumped 227. Then he tried for the first time in his career a 230 cm. „I did the standard for Birmingham already in Germany so I was free psychologically. It is clear I am in the shape of my life. Now is important not to loose it and try to stabilise my results. I think I can jump 230 but must not too much think about it. I must think like it would be 225 or 227 then it could happen. It is a special bareer,“ he explained. He will next compete at Czech series Moravia Daylong Tour in Hustopece (Jan 20), Ostrava (Jan 23) and Trinec (Jan 25). All the best czech jumpers (Janku, Ton, Baba) have suddendly an interesting neighbour oponnent. In women´s triple jump Irina Beskrovnaja (SVK) did 13.59 m. On the men side Jaroslav Dobrovodsky bettered his indoor best to 15.91. Both are coached by Alexander Beskrovniy.

OSTRAVA (CZE, Jan 14): Versatile talent and former world and european junior champion Denisa Scerbova started the indoor season with new best at 60mHurdles running 8.38. Next week she will do high jump in Hustopece and then she will compete for Czech Republic at Multi events match in Spain. She wants to try to qualify for Birmingham in pentathlon and possibly long jump. Her bests are Czech indoor records 664 and 4392 points. She started a very good heptathlon in Goteborg, but right knee injury prevented her to finish.

OLOMOUC (CZE, Jan 13): Another czech talent Roman Novotny (21 years) competed at level of his best at local meet. First he bettered his best at 60 m to 6.86 and also in long jump to 774. His outdoor best from last year is 784 cm.

PRAHA (CZE, Stromovka, Jan 13-14): Goteborg participant Josef Karas achieved a solid heptathlon score of 5633, but was unhappy mainly with shot put and the hurdles. He missed his best from last year 5755 by more than 100 points. His results: 7.04-729-13.44-196-8.65-470-2:48.92. Running the 60 m hurdles out of competition Petr Svoboda was able to produce a very solid 7.85 on Sunday.

MOSKVA (RUS): At Christmas Cup as Sergey Tikhonov reports in his results Yulia Golubchikova bettered her best to 465 cm and is currently leading the world lists. World indoor champion Yaroslav Rybakov started the season with 228 cm and very good results were achieved in pole vault. Reigning european indoor champion Igor Pavlov won but only after a jump-off. Four times the bar was changed in the contest with Viktor Chistiakov from Australia. Both did 570 cm. Kseniya Zadorina (born 1987) is new name to watch. She achieved at 500 m 1:09.98 a result which belongs to top 25 all time lists. Svetlana Shkolina who is heading for Moravia Daylong Tour won women´s high jump with 190 cm. World indoor silver medallist Andrey Yepishin surprisingly lost the 60 m race with Igor Gostev (they ran 6.71 and 6.77).

SEMPETER (SLO): As slovenian website siol.net reports Damjan Zlatnar fulfilled the standard for Birmingham at a local meet running the 60 m hurdles in 7.82. Fast 60 m were achieved by Pia Tajnikar with 7.44.

BATON ROUGE (USA): Fast 60 m at Purple Tiger Classic by Trell Kimmons. He achieved in heats 6.64 and in finals 6.67. His track record from 2005 is 6.59. Trinidadian sprinter Kelly-Ann Baptiste was the fastest woman with solid 7.30.

SEATTLE (USA): At Washington Preview meet at Dempsey Indoor Hall Nick Symmonds from Oregon TC achieved a great mile. Although helped by 307 m long track still 3:56.72 is a very good result. Second placed 800 m runner at US Nationals last year achieved first time a sub4 minutes time. Canadian jumper Michael Mason went over 222 cm and last year best US pole vaulter Brad Walker started the undercover campaign with 570 cm. He jumped all heights on first (535, 550, 570) and missed only 582 three times. His indoor best is 583 cm.

FAYETTEVILLE (USA): Arkansas Invitational brought the first sub 21 seconds indoor 200 m race of the year. Reggie Witherspoon from Baylor sped to 20.85. Chris Johnson won the 60 m race in 6.65 just ahead of De Bryan Blanton 6.67 (he achieved 6.66 in heats). Kenyan Eliud Njubi was first in the mile with very good 3:58.78. LaVerne Jones representing US Virgin Islands was able to achieve a new national record for her country 52.16.at 400 m.

GAINESVILLE (USA): Fast 55 m races were registered at Florida Intercollegiates. David Oliver achieved in hurdles one of the best times all-time 7.04 (14th place in all-time lists). In the flat race Greg Bolden achieved 6.14 and Walter Dix 6.19. On the women side Nolle Graham did 6.77 flat and Jamaican Andrea Bliss 7.67 over the hurdles. Second placed was French girl Fanny Gerance achieving 7.88 (in heats 7.84). Jamaican shot putter Dorian Scott achieved excellent 20.12 m. Austrian heptathlete Roland Schwarzl was competing in three events: 7.94 (55mH), 465 in pole vault and 14.32 in shot put.
