Sebrle is the only one since 2001

LAUSANNE: In the today published results of European Athlete of the year it should be noted that Czech decathlon olympic champion Roman Sebrle is the only one who is in this vote in the top ten since 2001 without interruption. His 5th position of 2006 is the third fifth. His positions – 2001: 7, 2002: 8, 2003: 5, 2004: 3, 2005: 5, 2006: 5.

Francis Obikwelu is the third sprinter winning the award after Linford Christie and Dwain Chambers.

Alekna comes to Estonia, then South Africa

TALLINN: The best discus thrower Virgiljus Alekna is coming this week for training camp to Tallinn, Estonia. He will use the indoor facitilites available and will be joined by one of the biggest discus talents ever Margus Hunt and another top thrower Aleksander Tammert. The second estonian top thrower Gerd Kanter is already in South Africa. He will be joined by Alekna later in February. The discus giant will have his usual one month training camp at high performance center of Potchefstroom.

Lebedeva will concentrate on Long Jump

MOSCOW: World indoor triple jump record holder Tatyana Lebedeva will concentrate this winter on Long Jump. Her agent Aivar Karotamm confirmed that she will compete only in this event in winter and that means the triple title in Birmingham at European Indoors will be wide open. It was already announced that the Greek silver medallist from Goteborg Hrysoipi Devetzi will miss the indoor season at all. Also the bronze medallist from Goteborg another Russian Anna Pyatykh is not yet decided whether she will compete indoors. Lebedeva will proove her Long Jump fitness at IAAF Indoor Meet Russian Winter in Moscow on Jan 28.

ITHACA: As Athletics International informed US Pole Vaulter Jennifer Stuczynski started her indoor season greatly in Ithaca with clearing 461 cm. It is similar begin as last year when she jumped on Jan 8 in Toronto 462 cm. Her indoor best is 468, outdoors she jumped so far 466. Her possible duel with Yelena Isinbayeva at Millrose Games could be very interesting. Isinbayeva will start the indoor season in Madison Square Garden and currently is in training in Italian Center of Aosta together with her coach Vitaliy Petrov.

NEW YORK: The best US high jumper Tora Harris will start his european season in Moscow on Jan 28 at Russian Winter. Then he will continue to Germany to compete at prestigious special high jump meets in Arnstadt (Feb 3) and Weinheim (Feb 7) and he will finish his overseas jumping in Bydgoszcz, Poland on Feb 14.
