Slovak High Jumper Peter Horák started the season very well

ESSING, Jan 5: Slovak High Jumper Peter Horak started his indoor campaign on a high note. On Friday evening in Essing, Germany he jumped 226 on second try. It was not only his indoor best and second best generally (last outdoor 227), but also exactly the standard of Slovak athletics federation for Birmingham. That means he is the first qualified athlete from Slovakia for European Indoor Championships later in march. He confirmed his second place in Slovak all-time lists behind Robert Ruffini who jumped 232 back in 1988 and 1990. Horak (23 years) was jumping well at the special indoor high jump event going over all bars in first jump (200, 208, 212, 215, 220, 223). Only at 226 he had the first miss of the evening, he then even tried his absolute best of 228. „I must be satisfied, I felt the shape already in the warm-up. I saw I am flying over 220 and was looking forward to achieve the standard for Birmingham. At 228 I was already tired because the other jumpers went out at 215 and I remained alone and jumped in quick time sequence. But for the begin it is not bad, of course I hope for more in next weeks,“ said the Slovak. He also bettered his own meet record of 220 achieved back in 2003. Horak will have the chance to proove his shape later in January at the third Moravia High Jump Tour in Czech Republic where he will meet all the top Czech jumpers and very fine international class. So far it is known, only Swede Linus Thornblad jumped with 228 better than Horak in current indoor season.
