EAA News - SPAR European Cross Country Championships smashes entry records

A record number of 509 athletes (275 men and 234 women) from 30 countries have entered for the 13th SPAR European Cross Country Championships which will be held in San Giorgio su Legnano next Sunday, 10 December.

This figure, represents a rise of 148 from the previous record entry in Heringsdorf, Germany in 2004 and is aided by the introduction of a new U23 category, introduced by the European Athletics Council on a project basis.

Sergey Lebid, from the Ukraine, leads the men's entry list where he will be looking to win his seventh individual title. Competing in his 13th appearance in the championships, the Ukrainian will face strong opposition from Britain's Mo Farah who is coming into top form in perfect time for the event.

The women's event looks to be wide open and any number of athletes has an equal chance of outright success.
