Grand Prix points in Slovakia |
BANSKA BYSTRICA/DUBNICA: The Athletics Bridge got special upgrade. IAAF decided that in order to assist at least eight athletes in the Men’s Hammer Throw to have points from the three meetings necessary to qualify for the World Athletics Tour Final in Stuttgart, the EAA permit meetings in Slovakia on 27 (Banksa Bystrica) and 29 (Dubnica) August will stage points scoring events in this event. That means that top 8 male hammer throwers will get points from both meetings. Accordingly some other top throwers confirmed their participation, for example silver medallist from Goteborg Olli-Pekka Karjalainen from Finland and 4th placer Markus Esser from Germany. Already in field European Champion Ivan Tikhon and bronze medallist Vadim Deviatovskiy, both from Belarus. All in all top 7 from Goteborg will compete. Last minute changes affected women 100 m Hurdles. After racing in Brussels Perdita Felicien and Lolo Jones withdrew. It was not easy to replace but Danielle Carruthers from USA (this season 12.74) and Anay Tejeda from Cuba (personal best 12.72 in Linz) are for sure ready to run some quick times.
Brussels will not be number one this year
MEETINGS: Rome Golden Gala remains the leader in meetings scoring list. Weltklasse in Zurich got number three currently and Brussels only number six. From big meets mainly Berlin and Rieti remained. It should be said for Van Damme that 4x800 m could not be scored, because the tables are not existing for this event.
