EAA News - Live streaming of European Athletics Championships

For the first time ever there is live streaming of a major championships on an international sports federation website. Live coverage of the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg on 7-13 August is available to view on the EAA website - www.european-athletics.org - in certain countries.

The live streaming is provided by the EAA's Broadcast Partner EBU/EUROVISION. EBU's members hold the exclusive rights for live coverage of the event, but nine countries have agreed to release the rights with the possibility of more to follow. EAA website users in the following countries are able to view the live coverage - Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

EAA Director General Christian Milz said: "2006 marks the 25th year of partnership between the EAA and EBU and we are pleased to be able to further enhance that partnership by undertaking this live streaming project. It is important that we keep up-to-date with new technologies and we are therefore delighted to be the first international sports federation to provide live web coverage of a major championship.

"We hope that the live streaming will enable even more athletics fans to enjoy the European Athletics Championships and also attract new audiences to our sport."

The EAA website was recently re-launched and is now more attractive and user friendly. The new design ensures that users immediately connect the website with the sport of athletics and dynamic drop down menus mean that with only one click users can access the most important contents.

During the European Athletics Championships start lists, results and flash quotes are appearing live on www.european-athletics.org and there are also event-by-event reports, features, athlete biographies and a daily photo gallery.
