New EAA-Website

The European Athletic Association has re-launched its website -

"We recognise that a modern, user friendly website is an essential part of communication about European Athletics," says EAA Director General Christian Milz.

"We have therefore redeveloped the EAA website to make is easy to use and attractive for the European Athletics family as well as fans of our sport. The redesign is part of the EAA’s overall communication strategy which aims to broaden the organisation’s communication about the sport and the ultimate aim is for the website to become the definitive source of news and information about all aspects of European Athletics."

The idea behind the new design, which was developed by Swiss company mediasprint, is to ensure that users immediately connect the website with the sport of athletics. Rotating images showing the fundamental elements of athletics - running, jumping and throwing – from grassroots to elite level appear throughout the site within an oval frame which resembles a running track.

The design uses the three colours from the EAA logo and curved elements to create a colourful, fresh and exciting image. Square elements on the left side and for the navigation bar provide a contrast to the curves.

Another very important consideration in the design was to improve the usability of the site. Dynamic drop down menus mean that with only one click users can access the most important contents. The site contains seven main sections, with dedicated areas for EAA Member Federations and the Media.

The results of surveys carried out amongst EAA Member Federations, the media and website users were taken into consideration in the redesign of the site to ensure it best meets their needs.

The website has been re-launched in time for the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg on 7-13 August, the most exciting event in the EAA’s four-year competition programme. The website is being updated daily with news, features and previews of the competition and there is also a prediction competition for fans. During the Championships, start lists, results and flash quotes will appear live on the site and there will also be event-by-event reports, features, athlete biographies and a daily photo gallery.
