Good results in Bratislava

Horak over 225, Hill confirms shape with solid win, Idowu makes summer begin

BRATISLAVA, June 13 – The old times of Bratislava GP meeting have been gone, but todays 47th annual of the event had some solid participation as it was part of IAAF development project and nearly 250 athletes from 21 countries competed including strong teams from England and Wales. Slovak athletics was most happy from high jumper Peter Horak who went at second try clearly over 225 cm his new best and had very good tries at 227 cm. Good quality in men´s triple jump where Commonwealth Champion Phillips Idowu from Great Britain competed for first time in european summer with 16.82 his only valid attempt in second round. But it was enough to beat local top athlete Dmitrij Valukevic who managed 16.76 in his 4th try (anyway his outdoor season best). New english running revelation Richard Hill (1:45.10 over the weekend in Watford) confirmed good shape with clear win in 1:47.59. Englands Richard Strachan won the 400 m in new best of 46.66 and beat the Irish World Indoor Medallist Paul McKee. Seth Amoo from Ghana achieved at 200 m the best sprinting performance of the day 20.77. Irish women heading for European Cup over the weekend in Praha won three events. Sudan´s Yamile Aldama arrived to Bratislava only 2 hours before the competition and so her 13.59 m were according to the tough travel schedule.
