Ludwig Vesely was the first Worldclass Austrian Decathete. In 1930 he ranked place 3 in the Decathlon Worldlist. Also in 1925 (6), 1928 (9), 1929 (7) and 1931 (10) he was ranked under the top 10.

Vesely started his sport carrier as soccer player for the WAC. In 1923 he started athletics training under coach Mang.

At the Olympic Games 1928 he placed 7th in the Decathlon. In 1932 he sufferd Pleuritis and could not compete at Olympic Games.

His Austrian Decathlon Record from 1931 remaind until 1958, this one from Vienna until 1969 ! He won 20 national titles, and set 14 Austrian Records. He retired from Decathlon in 1934 but competed until WWII in open events.

He died on 31 July 1986 with the age of 83.
